Safety guidelines for vessels requiring pilot assistance

Vessels to be piloted must adhere to the international operational and safety recommendations concerning pilot transfer arrangements: International Maritime Organization: Recommendation on pilot transfer arrangements and International Maritime Pilots´ Association: Required boarding arrangements for pilot

The pilot ladder should be located:

  • on the lee side of the vessel
  • as close to midship as possible
  • at a height of approx. 1.5 metres above sea level.
